Angelina Jolie has dismissed rumours that she will be starring as Marilyn Monroe in a new biopic.

The actress said at last night’s premiere of her new movie Salt that she was “flattered” by the speculation.
“It’s really funny because I have just heard about this for the first time today,” she told Sky News.

“It’s news to me. I’m flattered I suppose.”

Jolie reportedly landed the plum role in a big screen adaptation of the novel The Life And Opinions Of Maf The Dog And His Friend Marilyn Monroe.

George Clooney was rumoured to have been cast as Monroe’s ex-lover Frank Sinatra.

Jolie plays a CIA agent in Salt who is accused of being a Russian spy.

She took over the role in the action thriller from Tom Cruise.

Jolie said: “I did a lot of the stunts myself. I got a gash, a little scar right on the bridge of my nose but that was something very silly I did rolling into a table.”

Angelina Jolie has dismissed reports that she is poised to play iconic American actress Marilyn Monroe in a forthcoming blockbuster.

The Oscar-winning actress told Sky News the speculation is wide of the mark, as she appeared at the premiere of her new spy thriller Salt.

“It’s really funny because I have just heard about this for the first time today,” she said.

“It’s news to me. I’m flattered I suppose.”

Jolie’s latest action movie took £20m on its debut weekend in the US and looks set to do well in Europe.

Her character Evelyn Salt is a CIA operative accused of being a Russian “sleeper” agent waiting to be activated.

The plot has echoes of what happened earlier this year, when 10 people were arrested in the US on suspicion of spying for Russia.

“It was all very, very strange how close it was,” Jolie said.

“Somebody thought it was good marketing but hopefully it won’t affect our relationship with Russia.”

She added: “I did a lot of the stunts myself. I got a gash, a little scar right on the bridge of my nose but that was something very silly I did rolling into a table.”

Hollywood’s appetite for a hard-hitting female agent to compete with the likes of Jason Bourne and James Bond is strong and all the indications are that Salt could be that character.

“I hope so,” said Jolie. “It depends on the audiences. So far they like it. We leave it open at the end, so we will see how she goes.”

Hollywood’s favorite blonde is still turning heads, according to Tony Lambiase who recently donated 20 pieces of Marilyn Monroe memorabilia to the Jersey City Free Public Library Foundation – plus a life-sized statue of the actress in her famous pose over a subway grate from the 1955 film “The Seven Year Itch.”

“It started when my sister-in-law bought me a cigarette lighter with Marilyn Monroe’s picture on it,” said the Jersey City native. Continue reading »

Fox News commentator Bill O’Reilly says U.S. actress Lindsay Lohan‘s behavior should be taken more seriously because she is on the “Marilyn Monroe track.”

O’Reilly made the comment at the taping of Tuesday’s edition of “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.”

Lohan, who has long battled drug and alcohol addiction, is in jail serving a 90-day sentence for violating her probation in a 2007 driving under the influence case.

Monroe died of a drug overdose in 1962.

When the audience began to laugh at Lohan’s infamous mug shot as it was shown to them, NBC said in a news release O’Reilly remained tactful.

“You guys shouldn’t be laughing at this,” he said. “This is a woman who is on the Marilyn Monroe track. Monroe died at 36. (Lohan’s) from Long Island where I’m from. Very talented actress, if you’ve seen her, she is talented, but she is very confused right now and she can’t stay away from the substance abuse. So, if I were the judge I would have done exactly the same thing. Send her in, send a message. Continue reading »

Marilyn Monroe is a big hit in the B2B digital world. Thanks to agencies JDI and Blue Ribbon Digital she has achieved click-through rates (CTR) of 13.55 per cent for recycling company RockTron.

In a joint venture the agencies used the 50s starlet to front a campaign for RockTron. The digital element of the campaign saw a CTR 135 times greater than the industry average of 0.1 per cent for a flash advertisement.

The campaign is designed to raise awareness and promote discussion around RockTron’s new recycling technology. RockTron says its new technology, to transform coal-fired power station waste into valuable eco-minerals, was expected to fail and just like Monroe it proved critics wrong.

The campaign, which has also been run in print, encourages viewers to visit a microsite. Matthew Greene (MD of BRD) and Duncan Richardson (MD of JDi) said, “We’re confident that our unique blend of integrated traditional and digital represents the future.”

A team of 12 members have made a new world record by making world’s largest coffee mosaic of Marilyn Monroe in Australia.

As thousands sipped lattes at The Rocks Aroma festival, a small team tried to break the Guinness world record.

Over four hours, a team of 12 filled 5200 cups with 680 litres of milk and 780 litres of coffee to varying levels to make the world’s largest coffee mosaic of the screen siren at the Overseas Passenger Terminal Forecourt.

“It was such a great feeling,” the Daily Telegraph quoted Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority’s head of design Michael Donohue as saying.

“It took about three to four months to plan and the reaction from the crowd was really exciting,” Donohue added.

Mr Donohue said the blonde bombshell was a natural choice after their 2009 record-breaking Mona Lisa montage.

The Spanish colonial-style Hollywood home where iconic sex siren Marilyn Monroe died in 1962 is going up for sale for 3.6 million dollars, the real estate agency said Tuesday.

The one-story property, built in 1929, which spreads lavishly over 23,000 square feet (2,000 square meters) of land, is “the crown jewel” of the luxurious neighborhood of Brentwood, according to the agency’s website.

Cinematic diva Monroe lived in the house for only six months before her sleeping pill overdose death, having bought the house for 90,000 dollars.

The current owner did not permit press access to the property but allowed AFP access to take photos from behind tall gates on the secluded cul de sac.

Monroe memorabilia is highly coveted, with even a burial spot near the star’s last resting place being sold on the online auction website eBay in 2009 for 4.6 million dollars.

Marilyn Monroe, Sammy Davis, Jr. and Frank Sinatra have hit the headlines from beyond the grave – newly released FBI records allege the trio enjoyed “wild sex parties” with assassinated U.S. President John F. Kennedy and his two brothers.

A declassified memo from July 12,1965 was released on Monday, June 14 and the note claims New York resident Jacqueline Hammond was in possession of “considerable information concerning sex parties” at Manhattan’s fabled Carlyle Hotel.

Hammond claimed the alleged romps involved late icon Monroe, the former The Rat Pack singers, Kennedy and his two brothers, former U.S. Senators Edward and Robert Kennedy, and the leader’s brother-in-law, late actor Peter Lawford.

It is unclear how Hammond knew about the alleged events. The files detail the extraordinary life of Edward Kennedy, who lost his battle with brain cancer last August, aged 77.

It also includes a report of several death threats made against the politician five years after his failed run for the presidency in 1980, following the assassinations of his older brothers, John and Robert. Monroe’s alleged affair with JFK has long been a topic of interest, amid speculation the pair enjoyed a fling before his death in 1963.

The infamous Kennedy dynasty has been immortalized on screen for decades, including Martin Sheen’s portrayal of Robert Kennedy in 1974 TV movie “The Missiles of October”, 1990 TV miniseries “The Kennedys of Massachusetts”, and the star-studded 2006 movie, “Bobby”.
